Surviving MSFS 2024 SU5: A Flight of Fancy

2026-04-30

Captain TX navigates the turbulent waters of MSFS 2024 SU5 with surprising results.

Captain's Log: A Journey Through Sim Update 5

On this fateful day, the skies above the virtual world of Microsoft Flight Simulator were not without their thunderstorms, as the announcement of MSFS 2024 SU5 dropped like a surprise thunderclap during lunch. I suddenly found myself drenched in a sweat, my heart racing with panic. The eternal question echoed in my mind: just how much frustration would this update be costing me?

A Familiar Tale of Woe

If you've been flying with us since the release of 2020, you’re well-acquainted with the rollercoaster ride that is sim updates. They often resemble Santa Claus tumbling down a flight of stairs, colliding with a car, and then belly-flopping onto every fragile gift, not just once, but twice. It’s the chaotic charm of flight simulation, I suppose.

As I braced myself for yet another update-induced delay, I prepared for the worst. I was ready to clear out my add-ons, stock up on snacks, and settle in for a long night of troubleshooting. The thought of spending hours attempting to download and install left me feeling like a seasoned pilot preparing for an emergency landing.

The Download Miracle

But upon returning home and firing up the simulator, I was met with a miraculous sight: the update was finished! And not only that, it was *working*! It was as if the flight gods had smiled upon me. I updated all my add-ons that had a shiny new SU5 package, and after a swift restart, I was ready for takeoff.

A Flight to Remember

Before I knew it, I was airborne on a flight from KBUF to KATL in my trusty 737-800. Now, let’s not dwell on the logistics of how my aircraft ended up in Buffalo—sometimes, in the world of flight simulation, you just have to roll with it. But alas, my OnAir crew had to find a hotel in Buffalo. I hang my head in shame.

As I quietly tip-toe around the topic, just to keep the Murphy Law gods at bay, I must admit: SU5 is performing admirably. The stability is impressive, and visually, it seems to be an upgrade—even if the scenery includes the infamous sights of Buffalo.

So here’s to the magic of simulation updates: sometimes they work out just fine! Cheers to navigating the delightful chaos of the skies!
